Articles by Cynthia
Cynthia’s Blog (http://cynthiadamour.com) A fun discussion of life and the lessons it provides for chapter leaders. (Check out the review one association executive wrote about Cynthia’s blog – he called it hypnotizing, hokey and kooky!)
Cynthia’s Active Member Minute e-zine For more than 10 years, Cynthia has been sharing her latest thoughts and findings to help volunteer leaders be more successful. This is a great resource for you to share with your other leaders - and it’s free. Subscribe Today!
Tips:
- Encourage your leadership team and future leaders to sign up. They will get a better understanding of your chapter from a member’s point of view.
- Cynthia often takes on the issues facing your chapter that need to be talked about – but may be hard to start the conversation. Use her e-zine articles as a way to break the ice.
Meetings
Meeting Wizard (http://www.meetingwizard.com) Finding time when everyone can meet can be a time consuming process involving a gazillion emails. The Meeting Wizard allows you to identify specific days and times for potential meetings with a single email and web response.
Tips:
- Always give at least three or four options otherwise you’ll have to keep going back for more dates.
- You can plan multiple meetings with the same request. Say you need a full group meeting as well as two subcommittees. Give at least five or six options. Use the date with most availability for the full group meeting. Then identify best times for the different subcommittees.
Online Meeting Space
Writeboard (http://www.writeboard.com) Great for writing articles, agendas, promotion and more as a team. The Writeboard is an online text space where you can write, share, revise and compare.
Tips:
- Make sure you use the save function to keep your work moving forward. You can save it as an html file (like a web page with formatting) or as a text file (no formatting).
- Use a writeboard to brainstorm ideas before a meeting. Then use the face to face time or call time to discuss options.
CollectiveX (http://www.collectivex.com) or Ning (http://www.ning.com) Both give you the ability to set up your own online community within minutes.
Tips:
- Save time by using the community RSVP function.
- You can use a community for a team – such as your board – or your entire chapter.
- Best way to learn how to run a great community is to be active in at least one or two so you can see how different groups approach them.
